A Hotel With Suites Designed By Lenny Kravitz Opens Today In South Beach

Our company was involved in the creation of the 9 1/2 foot rubber duck on the pool deck of the SLS Hotel on South Beach. We also created drawings for a majority of the millwork in the public spaces of the hotel. Bars to Reception desks.

“Life ain’t bad kicking back in sunny Miami with a complimentary iPad on your right and a button that delivers you premium bubbly on your left. It certainly can’t hurt that Miami’s newest luxury hotel, the SLS, allows you to order award-winning chef José Andrés’s cuisine directly to your hotel room, any time you want.

The hotel is studded with star influences from top to bottom, literally. Situated on Miami’s historic Collins Avenue — where Art Deco architecture lives on and where views of Miami Beach tingle the optical senses — the SLS Hotel thanks renowned designer Philippe Starck for its aesthetic sheen.

Starck, sticking to his Franco roots, has imbued the Miami auberge with tones of the old French aristocracy, adorning it with white and pink color tones. But the hotel is also a study in the confluence of design. Starck blends Art Deco, old-world French, Latin, Asian, and contemporary movements in SLS’s 130-room main tower and its ten-room villa.

Joining Starck on the hotel’s design team is rocker-turned-designer Lenny Kravitz, whose owned his own design company, Kravitz Design Inc., since 2003.
Starck and Kravitz are close friends who both share an affinity for architectural creation. Kravitz first caught Starck’s eye when he created a series of chairs for Katrell based on Starck’s iconic “Mademoiselle” armchair.

Since then he’s designed tiles for Lea Ceramiche, crystal chandeliers for Swarovski, and part of the Delano Hotel in Miami. At SLS, he’s been commissioned to design and outfit the tower and villa penthouses, which he’s done with considerable Cyprus wood and Thassos marble.

On the stove, SLS has enlisted culinary giants José Andrés and Master Sushi Chef Katsuya Uechi. Uechi will open the eighth installment of his Katsuya by Starck brand and Andrés will unveil his second Bazaar location, the first of which is at the SLS hotel in Beverly Hills.

Uechi has planted a sake tower in the middle of Katsuya. Combined with the ‘champagne now’ button in guest rooms, SLS offers no shortage of opportunities to enjoy a spirit or two, or three. At the hotel’s Hyde Beach lounge, guests can sit poolside and enjoy massages, pedicures, and Andrés’s cuisine prepared in a mobile kitchen inside of an art instillation.

If the whole eating tapas and getting a deep tissue massage thing isn’t for you, well, you can just go back to your room and order any of the hotel’s services from one of its bedside iPads.”
